How to Calculate Average
Enter numbers separated by commas, spaces, or new lines. This calculator provides multiple measures of central tendency.
Statistical Measures
- Mean: Sum of values ÷ count (arithmetic average)
- Median: Middle value when data is sorted
- Mode: Most frequently occurring value(s)
- Range: Difference between max and min
When to Use Each
- Mean: General purpose, symmetric data
- Median: Skewed data, outliers present
- Mode: Categorical data, finding common values
Standard Deviation
Measures data spread around the mean. In a normal distribution:
- 68% of data is within 1 SD of the mean
- 95% of data is within 2 SDs of the mean
- 99.7% of data is within 3 SDs of the mean
